Eating Smart Starts with a Plan

I know there are times when our schedules get so out of hand that we can barely find time to bathe let alone eat well. In fact, most of the busy clients I work with are just like you. They are very smart and knowledgeable when it comes to what a healthy diet and lifestyle looks like. The real challenge is to make it happen in their hectic and over-committed lives. Right? So, for the busy folks I work with, I tell them the key to implementing healthy dietary changes is to think it through and make a plan. Planning smart is key to eating smart. If you make healthy choices available to you when you need them, chances are you will make better decisions. I’ve listed a few tips that I apply to my life to hopefully help you develop you own “smart eating plan” so that you can start eating better and feeling better, too: Plan for the week ahead – It sounds daunting, I know, but planning out your meals for the upcoming week will keep you on track with your health and wellness goals. Tak...

Fake It or Make It: A Guide to Achieve Your Goals

Ever heard of the phrase, “Fake it till you make it?” I’m not a big fan of the way it’s worded because I think we should always remain true and authentic to ourselves, but the idea does hold a valuable concept. It’s the concept of modifying your behavior to create the outcome, situation, or lifestyle you desire We all have goals/dreams we would like to achieve. The trick to making these achievements a permanent reality is to determine who we are going to be once these goals have been accomplished. How will they change you and your actions? How would you feel? For some, a goal may be to have more energy throughout the day. So, put yourself in that person’s reality. What would your current life be like if you already reached that goal? Chances are, you would be making time to prepare healthy energetic foods & snacks, exercising regularly and fitting in some self-care and recuperation time (like meditating or getting a massage) The idea of “fake it till you make it” is to dete...

Achieve Your Goals by Starting with Your Feelings

This is the time of year everyone is talking about New Year's Resolutions and setting goals. I used to think that the "resolutions" themselves were actually the goals. Turns out I had it all wrong... “Goals” are more like “stepping stones” that will bring you closer to the kind of life you want to live; what you’ve always dreamed your life would be like. It's what pulls you through when things get challenging and you feel like giving up. Having a great life is all about goals: big goals, small goals. Together, they assemble your life from dream to reality. I've also recently discovered that goals are so much more than “physical” or material achievement. I've met many people whose amazing accomplishments have left them feeling spiritually unfulfilled, emotionally ill, physically broken, and deeply unhappy. So aside from getting a raise or promotion, losing weight, meeting the love of your life; whatever your goals may be - what emotions do you want to e...

Happiness is a Verb: Forward Momentum

“The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream.”   ~ Benjamin Elijah Mays I remember hearing that goals without action were merely dreams that would never come true. After all, when you survey all the leaders and successful people on this planet that have made their dreams come true, you would find that goal setting, in conjunction with action, is what all these people have in common. What you might not realize is that failure in reaching those goals is also an important trait that these people share, too. And, there is nothing wrong with having to struggle a little in order to make your dreams come true. The truth is that just because you have to revise and redirect the path to the kind of life you want to live does not signify failure. Failure is only guaranteed if you should decide never to try. In this case, fa...

Dreams are Turning Points of Life

Today I want to write about dreams. Not the kind you have while sleeping, but the kind that really get you excited about life! The dreams you have for yourself, your family, the world. Personally, I live by the little dreams of love, success, hope and happiness that float around in my head. I assume that all humanity has similar “floaty” dreams and goals. Fantasies of achieving something great are part of the spirit that drives each of us forward. They start with the tiniest seed of an idea, and like children, you love them because somehow they are a part of you. You nurture and grow these ideas and as they grow so do your hopes.   But, what happens when these ideas, through no fault of your own, fall apart? Heartbreak is what. You may even become bitter about the very thing you once loved so dearly. Maybe that “perfect” job you’ve worked for all your life didn’t pan out, or perhaps you have an argument with a loved one and this makes you feel like giving up. You ...

Golden Hours

Happy New Year! I hope this 2012 year is your best yet, and I pledge to do all I can to help you make it so! As I sit here in the wee hours of the morning on the first day of the New Year, I remember my father. He’s an early riser, too. I remember him telling me one morning that the reason he loved mornings was because it was his time to see the world “untouched” by the rest of us. It made him feel like the world was his alone. For me this is the “Golden Hour” because it sets the tone for whatever follows. It allows you to take care of yourself first thereby setting you up for a happier day. What can you do with this time? Well, here are a few ideas that I think will work: Read: Most accomplished people took the time to “feed” their mind a diet of positive, uplifting and educational materials that moved them forward through their day and gave them inspiration for new ideas, goals and insight on life. Exercise: Take a walk. It circulates your blood, strengthens your hear...
